The Farallon islands are located 27 miles

off the coast west of San Francisco, in the

Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary. The waters surrounding the

islands are some of the richest waters on

earth and provide an important ocean

habitat for seals, sea lions, porpoises,

dolphins and whales. The Gulf is a

migration pathway for many species

of whales and sharks, including the

endangered humpback and blue whales.
